high quality interior paint job in your home.
Surface preparation is key to
getting a good finish on any painted surface. No matter what type of surface you
are painting, it has to be clean and free of grease, residues and any cracked or
peeling paint prior to any primer or paint application. Follow these steps to
get the surface ready.
Wash the walls of any dirt
buildup with a simple solution of gentle detergent and water. Use TSP (Tri
Sodium Phosphate) to clear away any build up of cigarette smoke or grease. Use a
bleach solution on mildew. Be sure to do a rinse with clear, clean water after
Scrape any flaking or chipped
paint with a flat blade scrapper. Sand down the rough edges with a fine
sandpaper to create smooth transitions. Look for cracks and chips in the wall,
fill these with spackle and sand the excess down with a fine sandpaper or
drywall sanding block.
When you’re patching, remember
that two thin coats are always better than one thick one. When the filler is
applied thick, it tends to shrink and crack. So working in layers allows the
filler to adhere and set properly.
Seal around door jambs and other
cracks with a latex caulk, making sure to wipe away any excess caulking. Filling
the voids between surfaces, such as moldings and door jambs will allow the paint

You’ll want to do a primer coat.
Primers set down an evening shade on the surface which makes the finish coats
cover better and easier. If the surface is brand new, never having been painted,
the primer also acts as a sealer. You can also have the primer tinted if you are
going with a light color over a dark color. The tint assists in the transition
